: Why Nobody Cares Anymore
Posted on May 7th, 2010 10:41:38 AM

Please read a very good article, called “No One Cares“, written by Chris Hedges over at Truthdig. It covers a teach-in Hedges attends with the likes of Rep. Dennis Kucinich, journalist Jeremy Scahill, writer/activist David Swanson, retired Army Col. Ann Wright and Iraq war veteran Josh Stieber. Overall I feel as though the article really reaches the heart of the matter with America’s apathy with the wars waged in the Middle East.
Basically, our democratic system has been run a muck by corporate sponsors who have all of the funding and lobbying capabilities of a legal citizen (and then some!), but are not held accountable for crimes the way a legal citizen is. And over the years of this being the Status Quo in political America, we have seen the middle class slowly disappear and any political power of the people dwindle with it. If you at all have an opinion on this matter, please read Chris Hedges’ article at Truthdig.
: Web 2.0 Crack Cocaine

Every time I hear a news anchor or a spokes person for something mention Web sites like YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter to either sell their product or point out their popularity online, I think how wild Web 2.0 has evolved in the past decade. At this point I’d say Social Networking sites have reached the level of Hip-Hop in the 1980′s with the crack epidemic. Everybody’s using it in their commercials and interviews! “My videos have so many views on YouTube,” or “I believe it was in the top 10 Tweets this week.” It’s hilariousness! To think, if you would have said to me 5 or so years ago, that Web sites like MySpace would become marketing gimmicks or a way to measure popularity … I would have said you were nuts. But here it is. 1984! And where is Ronald Reagan to fight this epidemic? LMAO! It looks like instead we’ve got Ronald McDonald running this show. Have a Happy Meal with that Tweet!

: Dotcom Celebrates 25th Birthday
Posted on March 15th, 2010 10:29:42 AM

“In March 1985, Symbolics computers of Cambridge, Massachusetts” became the first to register a Dotcom domain (BBC News, 2010). Now 25 years later, the Internet, domain names, and this still new, young and vibrant thing called the Web looks a whole lot different from then.

: Apple’s 10 Billionth Download
Posted on February 24th, 2010 11:12:43 AM
If you haven’t heard yet, Apple is about to celebrate it’s 10 Billionth download from iTunes. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the counter and it appears it should be final before the day’s end – as it’s just about 2 Million downloads away as I type.
I’d like to put a little twist on this occasion to mark the success of digital music sales online and attempt to make J Dilla’s “Donuts” album Apple’s 10 Billionth download.
If you’re a big fan of Dilla’s work, I recommend you do the same. Keep a watchful eye in the next coming hours on Apple’s download counter and when it gets close, even if you already have a copy – what’s another $10 to the brilliance of Dilla’s “Donuts” album? Purchase it again through iTunes right when the countdown nears 10 Billion!
: The Historical Construction of Race and Citizenship in the United States
Posted on February 21st, 2010 12:30:33 AM
Before February concludes itself for the year, I want to take a moment’s pause and reflect on race in America (as it weighs heavy on my conscience often).

It is important to recognize the role that racial identity plays in our lives and how society views us because of it. I feel we’re a greater nation because of the actions of people who acknowledged this and continued so in life with great caution on the idea of group think and color lines.
Below is a link to a great read for those interested in the topic – an essay by George M. Fredrickson.

Amazon: MP3 Download
I realize we’re well into February of 2010, but after quite some time spent deliberating, I really feel like this was the stand out album of ’09. So I thought to highlight it for you in case you haven’t heard it.
Also, I wanted to let everyone know I’m in the midst of putting together a new podcast, so no more throwbacks for a while. New material on the way.
In the mean time, feel free to highlight your favorite album of 2009 if you’d like. The comment box is open.
Peace,
Rev
